DIAPER DERMATITIS

It is rash developing in the groin and the anal area of multifactorial etiology.

It is also called diaper rash because it develops at children young enough to wear diapers.

Irritation caused by prolonged contact with ammonia, urine and feces is a factor causing this specific type of dermatitis as is obviously the growth of fungi in winter when diapers are less frequently changed.

From a clinical perspective, its presentation includes redness, ulcers, blisters and pustules.

In most cases differential diagnosis has to be posed to differentiate it from other types of dermatitis in that region.

Treatment is topical depending on the cause with antifungal medicines, sufficient aeration of the affected area, protective medication, antibiotics with topical application or even used systematically.
