LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims at removing the excess fat that has been deposited in various areas of the body, as well as fat cells.
Liposuction is an ancillary procedure for esthetic or medical reasons and not an overall weight-loss method.
With liposuction we manage to remove fat topically to improve body contours and proportion. To achieve optimum results, it is recommended that patients adopt a healthy lifestyle with balanced diet and regular exercise.
The following body areas are commonly targeted for liposuction treatment:
- Abdomen, flanks, lower back-waist (love handles)
- Back and chest (commonly in cases of gynecomastia)
- Upper arms
- Thighs (inner thighs- outer thighs)
- Buttocks (“saddlebags”)
- Inner knee- calves
- Neck line (double chin, dewlap)
Ideal candidates for liposuction are healthy men and women of average or slightly above average weight, with firm, elastic skin and localized fat deposits on some parts of their body, characteristic of their body type and build , usually inherited and resistant to exercise and diet.
Prospective senior candidates with inelastic or loose, saggy skin, who are obese or with intense cellulite, are probable to attain negative postsurgical results regarding the cosmetic part of the procedure. In such cases, the doctor may recommend a skin tightening procedure afterwards, a surgical resection of excess tissue (dermolipectomy).
Liposuction procedure requires local anesthesia. Patients can expect some pain (depending on their threshold for pain), commonly mild and tolerable for 3-4 days. Swelling and bruising may be present, but they are considered absolutely normal side effects and subside within one week. After the procedure, the patient needs to wear tight compression garments (not visible on the outside) for 20-25 days. Within 48 hours, the patient can return to his/her normal activities, excluding exercise which he/she is allowed to resume after 30 days (one month).
