PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma) is a non-invasive medical treatment for hair loss and restoration that involves the injection in small quantities of a concentrated solution. The solution is derived from the patient’s own blood sample and is infused into the areas of the scalp suffering from hair loss.
The method produces very good results and some patients can avoid the surgical method of hair transplantation or medication.
However, one should bear in mind that compared to transplantation, PRP treatment does not offer a permanent solution. So, the question arises: what is the duration of the treatment?
From our experience, an initial PRP treatment should consist of 3 sessions, within the time span of 8-12 weeks.
One maintainance session follows every 4 to 6 months.
What is PRP treatment for hair loss?
Plasma is the liquid component of blood which contains three types of blood cells: red blood cells (that carry oxygen), white blood cells (that combat infection) and platelets. Platelets repair and heal wounds.
In PRP treatment, blood sample is taken from the patient and then centrifuged. After about 5 minutes your blood will have been separated into three liquids of different density: red blood cells, PPP (Platelet Poor Plasma) and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).
PRP is a safe treatment, already widely used for the joints and face rejuvenation. Nowadays, there is scientific evidence that the same technique can trigger hair growth , so PRP is becoming increasingly popular as a non-invasive treatment for hair loss.
PRP Hair Loss Therapy in DERMAFRESH CLINIC
PRP hair loss treatment in DERMAFRESH CLINIC is administered by
Dr Demetrios Karafoulidis, a specialist Dermatologist.
Initially, blood sample is drawn and then blood is centrifuged.
Plasma growth factors will be then injected in the mesotherapy way into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth.
We recommend the treatment be repeated in 3 sessions within 4-6 weeks. To maintain the optimum benefit, we recommend that you repeat only one session every 4-6 months.
Is PRP method the right treatment for me?
As a form of “biotherapy”, Plasma autologous mesotherapy can be applied to patients suffering from hair loss who wish to avoid medications or surgery, such as FUT or FUE hair transplantation.
As an autologous treatment, PRP can be proper for men and women who:
- Suffer from hair thinning and hair loss
- Are not in favour of medication, or
- Opt for medicated and non-medicated treatments in combination to attain the optimum result.
PRP can also be applied after a hair transplantation surgery , strengthening body’s natural healing process in both the donor and the recipient zone.
However, it is important to note that PRP therapy is a relatively new treatment. PRP is effective for some patients but not for others. There isn’t sufficient theoretical scientific basis as for the way that PRP triggers hair growth. It is believed that PRP growth factors trigger new blood vessels and support natural healing process.
